From the pandemic to the polls, 2020 has been a time of tumult across a deeply divided America. FRONTLINE presents a post-election special on the lives, fears and hopes of Americans in the chaotic months leading up to the historic presidential contest. This documentary was filmed around the U.S. for much of the year, following Americans as they dealt with COVID-19 in their communities this spring, responded to George Floyd’s killing this summer, and then experienced the polarizing election and its aftermath this fall.

Anya, an exemplary housewife, devoted her life to taking care of her family. Relatives are used to the fact that mom is always alone at home with three children, while dad Sasha disappears at work. One day, offended by her husband's inappropriate antics, Anya decides to leave him with the children and find a job, starting an independent life. It doesn't work out all at once. And at this time, the children, being alone at home, make a real commotion.

Ryuji Yashiro (Mitsuki Koga), Wakagashira of the Sumida-gumi, and his Wakagashira-hosa Takashi (Makoto Kurami) have long supported the organization with their fearless determination and brute strength. Despite slowing them down, Kazuya (Koji), the biological son of the Yoshida-gumi’s boss, had always chased after them desperately. The three were inseparable. However, everything changed during the two years Ryuji and Takashi were overseas procuring weapons. Now the head of the Yoshida-gumi, Kazuya had broken away from the Sumida-gumi and begun causing chaos on their turf, incited by the rising Kansai-based Tamaki-gumi, who had no regard for anti-gang laws or traditional codes. Driven by rage, Takashi is swiftly taken down, and when Ryuji rushes to the scene, he is forced to face an ultimatum from the Sumida-gumi: "Make amends as a yakuza—by becoming a civilian."

This is a 1991 documentary film about the legendary artist and filmmaker, Joseph Cornell, who made those magnificent and strange collage boxes. He was also one of our great experimental filmmakers and once apparently made Salvador Dali extremely jealous at a screening of his masterpiece, Rose Hobart. In this film we get to hear people like Susan Sontag, Stan Brakhage, and Tony Curtis talk about their friendships with the artist. It turns out that Curtis was quite a collector and he seemed to have a very deep understanding of what Cornell was doing in his work.
